Hommage à Jacques Boulad (1929-2010)
No one has the right to be happy alone... An appeal from the children of Egypt...
the handicapped, the street children, the Sudanese children, the children from villages and hovels - both Christians and Moslems....
It is in their name that I send this appeal to finalize a project which aims to bring a little joy and happiness to these unfortunate children. It concerns a Center for Leisure and Formation located at the seaside in the village of Abu-Talat, about thirty kilometers west of Alexandria. This center is the extension of a similar center with a swimming pool built by me thirty years ago and which is now clearly inadequate. Thanks to the generosity of friends, mostly Egyptians, I have acquired a piece of land 2300 meters quire where I have already begun construction of a building with four floors capable of receiving nearly a hundred children, their supervision will be assured by young volunteers who at the same time will undergo an apprenticeship in giving and serving.
First step (already completed) - see photo below
- Purchase of land (already realized)
Total cost : EGP 2,000,000 - or USD 370,500 - or Euros 302,500.
Purchase of land: EGP 700,000 - or USD 116,000 - or Euros 87,500.
Concrete structure with 4 floors :
EGP 1,700,000. = USD 283,000. = Euro 215,500.
Second step (to be completed) Finishing to be realized: Total cost : EGP 1,268,000 or USD 210,500 or Euros 158,600. (brick dividing walls - carpentry work - insulation - plastering and painting - metal work - ceramics and tiling - flooring - electricity and plumbing - marble and granite)
Ground floor: EGP 400,000. = USD 66,000. = Euro 50,000.
First Floor: EGP 360,000. = USD 60,000. = Euros 45,000.
Second Floor: EGP 357,000. = USD 59,500. = Euros 44,600.
Third Floor: EGP 151,000. = USB 25,000. = Euros 19,000.
Budget for completing the building work at Abu-Talat in Egyptian Pounds/:
Budget for the completion of the construction of the building at Abu-Talat
Marble & Granite
One million tow hundred sixty seven thousand six hundred seventy Egyptian Pounds
I am short of money to proceed with the construction. It is absolutely necessary that the first two floors be completed before the end of May 2013. Otherwise, certain benefactors will withdraw their donations. If each person could donate 100 or 200 dollars or Euros, I would be able to finish those floors before the summer. I have placed this project under the name and the patronage of my brother Jacques, who devoted his whole life for children and for youth. Should you perchance be one of his former students who feels indebted to him, the best way to express your gratitude would be to make a contribution to this project.
If any benefactor, society or association should take the responsibility for financing a complete floor, their name will be inscribed on a plaque at the entrance of the building.
On behalf of the children of Egypt many thanks for your support.

Abu-Talat - about 30 kilometers from Alexandria
5 days at the seashore for 800 children!!
(a true story)
"How old are you, Fayza?"
"Thirteen years old."
"Really!!! You are joking!"
"Not It's true! I'm thirteen years old. I'm. sure!"
I could not believe that this child - so thin, so -underdeveloped was really thirteen years old. She appeared to only eight or ten. The truth is that Fayza has never eaten to satiety. Her family is too poor. There are five other children younger that Fayza. They live all crowded together in one room at Kafr –El Dawar, an industrial city located 25 kilometers from Alexandria
Fayza is just one child among thousands of others. During the year we visit them to bring them what we have managed to gather from our friends. We also encourage them to play games, to learn to read and write, to make them feel they really exist, that someone thinks about them and loves them.
Each summer we organize summer camps at the seashore for these children. What a dream this is for them! The sea!! The sea,!! Most of the children have never seen the sea. The sea, the impossible dream of these children who have never before left their village with its narrow streets filled with garbage.
Departure day arrives! The children are there - frisky, laughing, chatting away, lively near the two big buses which have come for them. They hold in their hand a pitiful plastic bag with a few clothes. They have no other baggage. The majority wear slippers. Their parents are too poor to buy them shoes!!!
Our young monitors move about the buses organizing the departure: 40 boys in the first bus, 40 girls in the second. Their face? Gaunt, emaciated, pale - but wonderfully radiant!!
Once at the seashore, they plunge into the water wearing shorts or a dress. They have no idea what bathing suit is! They dare not go too far from the shore. The waves frighten them and they don't know how to swim. It is enough for them to splash about at the shore and to roll around with delight in the shallow water. Others dig holes, make sand castle or run with enthusiasm along the shore.
However, the most important thing is that they eat well. It is absolutely that these five days give them the chance to build up their strength and complexion for the 360 days they will spend living in their wretched lodgings, their filthy lanes, their hell!!!
You who read these lines, for the equivalent of USD 20 you can give a girl like Fayza five days of paradise. This coming summer there will be 800 children: ten groups of 40 boys and ten groups of 40 girls. On their behalf, we say, "Many thanks!!.

There is no winter without snow,
no springtime without sun
no joy which is not shared Serb proverb
Not to give is to loose!
They have never had the opportunity to leave their humid houses and filthy lanes. The majority of them, though living only 25 kilometers from the coast, have never see the sea or gone swimming.- With about between 40 and 50 children in each group, the groups follow one another throughout the summer under the supervision of our young students. These five days of relaxation and recreation will be the only vacation for these children.
On their behalf, we say:
